Rock Raiders not starting WIN8

So I have a HP Revolve 810 with Windows 8.1 installed on it

I installed RR from the Kid's Craze Lego edition with no problems(with 98 compatibility on, though)
and I copied d3drm.dll to the installation directory. But when I try to run RR, the video selection window comes up, and I choose the HAL rgb one with windowed
The window opens then closes almost instantly
I tried fullscreen, and it switches resolution but switches back immediatly
I've installed directx6 from a distributor as well as through the cd, yet the same thing happens.

It used to say something along the lines of " no directx 3d accelerator found" but I think installing directx 6 fixed it

I've messed a ton around with compatibility, yet nothing works

I can upload a small video of what happens when I run it, and system specs are below
Intel i5-3437U CPU @ 1.90GHz 2.40GHz

4.00 GB of RAM

Windows 8.1 Pro

I honestly can't find anything at all about the graphics card, but I know it's an intel one

AAAARGH NO NO NO HOW COULD YOU DO THIS :P

Always use the Direct3D HAL and NEVER the RGB emulator.

I know it's an intel one

Good. LRR != Radeon graphics.

Have you tried running it in Windowed mode? To do that, right-click on the .exe and go to the Properties thingy, then to.. somewhere on that pop-up. There should be something about colour there - you want it to run in 16-bit colour. Make sure you use the Direct3D HAL thingy.

And then try running it in compatibility for XP Service Pack 2.

See what that does.

Are you sure you're using the right version of d3drm.dll? Rock Raiders requires at least DirectX 6, but the dll you're using could be from an earlier version. Rock Raiders should come with DX 6, so try using the version of d3drm.dll included on the CD; Those installers probably didn't work, anyway.

I choose the HAL rgb one

I'm confused. Did you choose Direct3D HAL or RGB Emulation? Direct3D works better, while RGB is generally buggy.

Have you tried running it in Windowed mode?

Dear aidenpons,

please be sure of what you're saying when posting in the support section, or I'll write an educational blog post about how helpful you aren't.

Sincerely,

CC10.

Ok, so I've run it in Windows SP2 and a few others, to no avail

I have messed around with all the video options, and the d3drm.dll I'm using is from Lego Island 1, so I'll get the one off the cd and try d3drm from it

It Worked! I guess lego island uses a different directx

Now I just hope that there will be no issues like with the other windows 8 troubles
